This Charles Laurie briefcase is the ideal commuting companion

Handmade to order in the brand’s South East London studio, this briefcase features a newspaper pocket, coin purse, business card slip and a phone pocket

You can’t beat the feeling of having something made to order. Be it a bespoke, tailored suit or a coach-built car, when a product is created especially for you, it’s all the more special. Which is why, for the latest products to be stocked on the Gentleman’s Journal Shop, we’ve turned to Charles Laurie. Founded in 2016, Laurie designs and manufactures every order he receives by hand in his South East London studio.

And, while he also offers everything from cardholders to weekenders, it’s the briefcase that has really caught our eye. In jet black leather, this sophisticated commuting companion has two large sections inside — perfect for your laptop, A4 documents or those highly confidential folders you need to keep safe. Its interior divider also features two pen loops, a business card slip, coin purse and a phone pocket.

But our favourite feature of this meticulously made briefcase? The handy newspaper pocket at its back. It may be a seemingly small design choice, but the ease with which you can tuck your morning broadsheet into your briefcase will ensure that, whether you’re catching a train or jumping into a cab, it’ll remain safely stowed and suitably uncreased until you’re ready to read it.

And that's not all. When you order your briefcase, Charles Laurie himself will also send you a swatch of suedes so you can decide on the bespoke colour of your lining — to ensure that your exclusive investment is as personalised as it can possibly be. See? We told you made-to-order felt good...
